A Prayer Sent Heavenward

Mine eyes are set on eternity, but oft they seem to drift,
For in mine heart, Heaven is far, due to my sin-created rift.
I ache, I seek, I knock, I pray,
Yet still, I cannot find.
I want to do it all, but can't,
For it is His work to do, not mine.
My sin is present from womb to tomb,
Oh, how I wish to be set free.
I am yet blind, but oh, I pray that Thou may open mine eyes to see.
Oh Lord, keep me,
Wash me clean, of all mine iniquities.
For what is worldly gain and accolades if I know not Thee in eternity?
Change me that I may be set onto the straight and narrow path,
That when the day of eternity comes, I may not face Thine wrath.
I feel so out of place on this Earth, oh Lord, how I ache to be with Thee.
Save me, oh Lord, this I pray, this please do grant me.
My heart is ever deceitful, my flesh is ever strong,
Suffer me not to fall to those things that Thou hast revealed to me are wrong.
Lord, grant me peace if it please Thee, for Thou art more than able.
Keep me from sin that I may, one day, sit and commune at Thine table.
