so i wrote this little excerpt a bit ago, i didn't write the date like i normally do so i don't know the exaaaact date, but since i'm buying new glasses on friday (tomorrow for me! don't know about when you read this though), i thought it was only fitting to share (man do i miss open mics...if anyone knows ubc ones can you please let me know... or like community ones...)
my glasses have been
falling off more recently
i have to push them up more,
and it made me remember the time
somebody my age told me
asian people
didn't have nose bridges
and that's why my glasses had those little nose holder thingies
the absolute oldest i could have been at the time was
ten.
and at ten, that was forever seared into my mind.
i didn't even know what a nose bridge was.
i think i remember asking my sister and maybe even imagining a literal bridge on my nose?
i now fondly call the glasses without those little nose holder thingies...
"white people glasses"
they don't fit me,
but sometimes i wish they did.
oh the options i would have...
a few years after that interaction,
i wanted,
i craved,
for a lighter complexion,
lighter hair,
lighter eyes,
and a new nose.
i was so tired of my glasses slipping among other things.
today, i had
the revelation
that i didn't need a new nose
i just need some new glasses
some that don't slip and keep me safe and secure,
so i can see the world how i was meant to see it.
